Government of Canada to Match Generosity of Canadians in Response to earthquake January 14, 2010

from CIDA

The Government of Canada will match the contributions of individual Canadians to eligible Canadian charitable organizations in support of humanitarian and recovery efforts in response to the earthquake in Haiti, up to a total of $50 million. The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) will allocate these funds to Canadian and international humanitarian and development organizations.

Donations made by individual Canadians to eligible Canadian charitable organizations over the period of January 12 to February 12, 2010 will be matched by the Government of Canada through the CIDA-managed Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund. The Fund will support Canadian and international humanitarian and development organizations with significant in-country capacity to deliver humanitarian, early recovery and reconstruction assistance in Haiti.

To be considered eligible for the CIDA matching fund, donations MUST be receipted by The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund.

Parish Envelope Secretaries are encouraged to forward cheques designated for Haiti Relief to PWRDF as soon as possible.

If the donor has included the Haiti designated amount with their regular offerings, it is acceptable to send a cheque for the total of these designated amounts.  In order for PWRDF to issue the tax receipt, please ensure that a list containing the following is included with the cheque:
•Date of donation
•Donor Name
•Complete address, including Postal Code
•Haiti donation amount

For cheques mailed after the deadline of February 12, 2010, it will be necessary for the Parish Financial Officer to certify the date of receipt was prior to the deadline.
