Peace and Compassion 2009 Lenten Meditations

Lent offers us the opportunity to reflect on our lives, our neighbours and our world. As you embark on your spiritual journey this season, PWRDF asks you to remember those whose lives differ from your own. In 2000, the international community developed the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to halve the number of people living in extreme poverty by the year 2015. Endorsed by development institutions and religious bodies around the world, efforts to achieve the MDGs have galvanized unprecedented international energy. Please join us in supporting this historic effort.

PWRDF 50th Anniversary Prayer

Prayers of the People to Commemorate The Springhill Mine Disaster, October 23, 1958

As we celebrate and give thanks to God for fifty years of Anglican compassion and action around the world through The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund, let us place before God our prayers for the world, the church and those near and dear to us. I invite you to respond:O God, hear our prayer.

We pray for all who suffer the results of natural disasters: earthquakes, storms, floods, drought and disease....those who have died, those who struggle to rebuild their lives.

Response: O God, hear our prayer

We pray for all victims of human error or human greed and hate in mine disasters, oil spills, conflicts, wars, genocides, unjust imprisonment.
Response: O God, hear our prayer

We pray for all those millions displaced, fleeing for their lives, seeking refuge.
Response: O God hear our prayer

We pray for all those who come to their aid, giving of themselves in time, energy and money to stand beside and support communities around the world in partnerships of caring and justice.
Response: O God, hear our prayer

We ask God to help us discern our proper roles and grant us the wisdom, compassion and strength to fulfill them.
Response: O God, hear our prayer

We pray for those near and dear to us, or known to us, who are sick, shut in, handicapped, and for those who have died. (please name them now)
Response: O God, hear our prayer

We pray for those who remember that rumble of the earth 50 years ago and have lived with the loss and lives changed by the Springhill mine disaster.
Response: O God, hear our prayer

We pray for all those who have committed themselves for fifty years in the work of The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund, holding up especially our Primate, the staff, the board, the volunteers at the national and local levels all across Canada.
Response: O God, hear our prayer

We offer these prayers and all our prayers to God who hears us and calls us to respond. May God's love and comfort spread throughout the world. Amen.
