Setting the PWRDF Table: An Opening Exercise
Use this activity at the beginning of a workshop or event to draw the group together and introduce PWRDF. You may wish to choose alternative symbols.
Materials:
Symbols for setting the table: 4 cloths; candle; seeds; map of Canada; mission statement; three ribbons. World Map
1.Symbols ~ Lay the table with international cloths from Africa, Asia, Latin America, Canadian Indigenous community. Reader: PWRDF’s international partnerships are based in four regions: Africa/Middle East; Asia/Pacific; Latin America/Caribbean; and Canada. PWRDF is also active on a global level supporting campaigns and inter-regional work. All in all, the PWRDF program reaches nearly 50 countries.
2. Symbols ~Candle, Seeds,Map of Canada Reader: The PWRDF program has evolved over the years: The Primate's World Relief Fund was created by General Synod in 1959. In response to the Springhill mining disaster. (Add Candle). Ten years later the name changed to The Primate's World Relief and Development Fund to reflect the growing commitment to address root causes of disasters through people-centered development. (Add Seeds) As well as participation of international partners, PWRDF seeks to engage Canadians. In 1973 the Development Education program began. In 1984 the Refugee network was established. In the year of our 40th anniversary, 1999, the Youth Initiative was mandated. In 2001 each Anglican Diocese became a voting member of the Primate’s Fund. (Add map of Canada)

Symbol ~PWRDF Mission Statement (bookmark) Reader: The PWRDF Mission Statement reads: PWRDF is a response by Canadian Anglicans to the gospel call to bear witness to God's healing love in a broken world. Inspired by the vision of a spirit-filled community of hope, PWRDF walks together with partners in Canada and overseas, to share in the creation of a more just and peaceful world. In joy and struggle, the Primate's Fund engages in development work, responds to emergencies, works to protect refugees, and educates and advocates for change. (Add bookmark)
